Check these first

• A friction element F that will not apply
• A solenoid or valve body fault holding element F off
• A failed transmission fluid pump
• Low or degraded transmission fluid
• A TCM calibration fault

What to do next

1. Read friction element F apply data on a scan tool
2. Command the element F apply and watch slip
3. Check the fluid level and condition
4. Test the solenoid and valve body on element F
5. Repair the element F circuit if it will not apply
6. Clear the code and retest
