• A corroded gear shift direction connector
• A failed driver in the transmission control module

1. Read gear shift direction status on a scan tool
2. Command the gear shift actuator both directions
3. Test the gear shift direction circuit for open and short faults
4. Check the gear shift direction connector pins
5. Replace the gear shift actuator if the circuit tests good
6. Clear the code and retest
