Check these first

• Low engine oil level or low oil pressure
• A clogged oil cooler or oil filter
• A faulty engine oil temperature sensor
• The wrong oil type or viscosity
• A cooling system fault or a stuck thermostat

What to do next

1. Check the engine oil level and top it off
2. Inspect the oil cooler and oil filter for a blockage
3. Read engine oil temperature on a scan tool against a gauge
4. Check the thermostat and cooling system
5. Replace the engine oil temperature sensor if it reads off
6. Clear the code and retest
